Not necessarily Jazz or Classical, although I would go for a more Classical sound at this point. I write for just about any instruments, but right now I'm focusing on orchestral stuff, so strings, brass, woodwinds, and basic percussion. I'm willing to build up a library little by little, or if it would be better, I could get a bundle. one product dedicated just to strings, or just to brass), correct? That is one heck of an investment. It seems that soundsets come by type (eg. I'm looking for the most realistic sounding virtual instruments available. This seems like the place to go to get good feedback. I've done a bunch of listening, and at first impression, it sounds to me like EastWest/Quantum Leap is the best out there, but I would really like to hear some feedback and opinions from those experienced in the world of sound libraries. I have now heard of EastWest, Kontakt, Garriton, and Bigfish Audio. Here's the main question to answer: In your experience, what company (and/or specific products) would you purchase from to build up the best sound library to write and play your music with? I'm saving up and doing a bunch of research on what I should get. 7 has made some improvement, but instruments such as the strings are still too synth-y for my tastes.

I just upgraded to Sibelius 7, mainly for its new sound library, because I currently can't afford a professional collection of virtual instruments.

I'm pretty new to Sibelius (at least, I only recently learned how to use it in-depth). Re: What is the most substantial, professional.
